About New Deal for Communities In 2000, Derwent in Derby was chosen as an area that would receive a New Deal for Communities grant from the Government to be spent on projects that would help to improve the area and the facilities and opportunities it provides. Derwent Community Team
Derwent Community Team is the organisation responsible for putting a ‘regeneration programme’ into practice that would help to make the area safer and cleaner; improve housing; generate more jobs and training opportunities; increase learning facilities and educational achievement; and improve residents’ health, quality of life and social facilities. So the area would look better and be safer and residents would feel better and have more cash in their pockets. Developed with residents, for residents
The idea of New Deal for Communities is that local people would have more of a say in the development of facilities in their area than ever before. That’s why Derwent Community Team’s board is made up of residents as well as agencies from around the area and City that are providing services. |
